Go to: Alaskan Way Viaduct | Fifth Avenue Paving | Link Light Rail

This is your guide to working with and mitigating street, sidewalk, and utility construction that may impact your property or travel plans.

Alaskan Way Viaduct

The Alaskan Way Viaduct is a major transportation facility for the people that visit, work and live in Downtown. In response to damage suffered by the viaduct in the 2001 Nisqually earthquake, repair and replacement of the viaduct has been a top priority for the State and the City of Seattle.

Several projects are currently underway which will repair or replace about half of the seismically vulnerable viaduct.

Fifth Avenue Paving

The Fifth Avenue Paving Project is part of the Bridging the Gap transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006, which will pave and repair Seattle streets, make seismic upgrades, improve pedestrian and bicycle safety, and increase transit speed and reliability.

Among the priority projects for 2008, is the repaving of Fifth Avenue in Downtown Seattle from Denny Way to Marion Street.

The project replaces asphalt, repairs the concrete or brick base beneath it, and adds new or upgraded curb ramps.

Link Light Rail

Beginning in 2009, Sound Transit’s Link light rail trains will comfortably carry thousands of people into and out of Downtown Seattle every day. Downtown employees, residents and visitors will be able to avoid traffic and ride trains from the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel (DSTT) to and from SODO, Beacon Hill, the Rainier Valley, Tukwila and Sea-Tac International Airport. Construction is underway now.
