Bus

  • In 2008, King County Metro Transit provided 117 routes which served Downtown Seattle Mondays through Fridays. The weekday services averaged 129,000 riders each way. On weekends, Downtown's King County Metro had 58 routes serving Downtown, averaging 73,000 riders each way on Saturday and 51,000 on Sunday. Metro also operates a “Ride Free” zone in Downtown from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.

  • In 2007 King County Metro experienced a 34% increase in weekday ridership over 2006. Weekend ridership grew 41% for both Saturday and Sunday services during the same period.

  • In 2007, Sound Transit ST Express buses operated 13 routes Monday through Friday serving Downtown Seattle, averaging 783 bus trips each weekday. Seven routes operate on the weekends with 451 bus trips on Saturday and 418 bus trips on Sundays and holidays. For 2007, the average ridership on the routes servicing Downtown Seattle was 25,432 on weekdays, 10,498 Saturdays and 7,797 Sundays.

  • Sound Transit experienced a 10% growth in weekday ridership from 2006 to 2007. It also experienced a growth in ridership of 11% on Saturdays and 12% on Sundays.

  • In 2007, Community Transit (Snohomish County) operated 20 routes into Downtown Seattle with annual ridership of 2,172,833.

  • Community Transit experienced a 6% growth in ridership from 2006 to 2007.

  • During 2007, the average daily number of ferry passengers at Seattle’s Coleman Dock was 24,779. This is down slightly from 2006 when there was a daily average of 24,671 ferry passengers at Seattle’s Coleman Dock.

  • During 2007, the average daily number of vehicles at Seattle’s Coleman Dock was 7,684. This is down slightly from 2006 when there was a daily average of 7,807 vehicles.

  • Washington State Ferry ran a temporary ferry between Seattle and Port Townsend from Dec. 13, 2007 until Jan. 6, 2008 due to mechanical issues with the Port Townsend to Keystone ferry.

Rail

  • The Monorail links Seattle Center/Uptown to Westlake Center and Downtown. It carried 1,588,872 riders in 2007 and 1,358,839 passengers through the third quarter of 2008.

  • Amtrak operates eight daily trains through Downtown's King Street Station. The Cascades route services Vancouver B.C. (1 train daily), Portland (4 trains daily) and Eugene, OR (1 train daily). The Empire Builder runs east to Chicago (1 train daily) and the Coast Starlight south to Los Angeles (1 train daily). Total ridership for 2008 on these trains was 695,066 for the Cascades route, 317,879 for the Coast Starlight and 503,088 for the Empire Builder for a total of 1,516,033.

  • Sound Transit operates two Sounder commuter rail lines (Seattle-Everett with three roundtrips in the peak direction and Seattle-Tacoma with five roundtrips in the peak direction and one roundtrip in the reverse peak direction) Monday through Friday serving downtown Seattle, for a total of 18 train trips (94 rail car trips) each weekday. Service is operated to selected events on weekends. For 2007, the average ridership on Sounder commuter rail was 8,022 on commute weekdays, Saturday event service 2,977 and Sunday event service 4,527.
