Seattle Department of Transportation conducts annual vehicle counts in several areas throughout the City of Seattle. The count is segmented by the Average Annual Daily Traffic (AAWDT) (5-day, 24-hour) for the selected sections of roadway. Downtown Seattle is tracked from Denny Way to the north, Yesler Way to the south, 8th Avenue to the east and the waterfront to the west.

*3rd Avenue decline can be attributed to the closure of the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel from Sept ‘05- Sept ‘07. The tunnel was retrofitted to handle both buses and light rail. During the closure, Third Avenue downtown was a bus-only throughway at morning and evening rush hour.
