| DSA Continues Viaduct Replacement Efforts |
Transportation Committee Chair Rob Sexton continues to represent the DSA on the Viaduct Stakeholders Advisory Committee. The committee, comprised of neighborhood, labor, business and environmental interests, is reviewing eight alternatives for the replacement of the central portion of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. In November, the committee is scheduled to meet to review cost and traffic information for each option. |

Alaskan Way Viaduct Closed
October
18-19 for Semi-annual Inspection
WSDOT has announced Oct. 18-19 as the dates for the next inspection of the Alaskan Way Viaduct, during which time engineers will carefully monitor the roadway’s condition to measure any substantial damage or movement.
As part of the inspection, WSDOT and SDOT maintenance crews will repair guardrails, bridge rails and expansion joints, service drainage systems and traffic cameras, and conduct other routine maintenance.
In addition, the closures will allow crews to service fire and ventilation safety systems in the Battery Street Tunnel.
The Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed from the Battery Street Tunnel to Spokane Street on the following days:
- 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18
- 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19
The Battery Street Tunnel will be closed overnight on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Inspection results will be posted the WSDOT website by Friday, Oct. 24 at: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/Viaduct/InspectionResults.htm.
Tour the Viaduct on Foot
During this fall’s closures, WSDOT, King County and the City of Seattle are hosting 45-minute walking tours of the historic Alaskan Way Viaduct. The tours will include commentary from program engineers on the history of the roadway, details on the inspection process and thoughts on the structure’s future.
The tours will take place from 9:30 a.m. until noon, and reservations are required. To reserve your spot, email viaduct@wsdot.wa.gov, or call 1–888–AWV–LINE and leave a message with your contact information. Please note that for safety purposes, no children under age 16 or pets are allowed on the tours.
