DSA Invites Members to Viaduct Replacement Briefing, Sept 26

The City of Seattle, King County and WSDOT are partnering with the Downtown Seattle Association and Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce to host an important briefing for Downtown businesses to learn the latest about the alternatives for replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

This special briefing is a valuable opportunity to learn about the new approach for developing a central waterfront solution, replacement alternatives under consideration and how these options are being evaluated.

This free can’t-miss forum is scheduled for 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Hildebrand Hall (1217 Sixth Avenue) in Downtown Seattle. RSVP via email (viaduct@wsdot.wa.gov) or by phone

DSA’s Viaduct Actions To Date
The Downtown Seattle Association has had an active voice in public discussions to develop a replacement solution for the Alaskan Way Viaduct when it comes down in 2012.

To-date, the DSA has been successful in helping defeat a 2006 public advisory vote to replace the viaduct with another elevated structure, in advocating for a set of guiding principles from which to base replacement alternatives and in requesting the involvement of a third-party economics expert in all viaduct discussions.

In addition, DSA Transportation Committee Chair Rob Sexton has been playing an active role as a member of the Alaskan Way Viaduct Stakeholder Advisory Committee – a diverse 30-member community group formed by the City of Seattle, King County and WSDOT to provide feedback on ideas for the central waterfront section of the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

As the Stakeholder Advisory committee continues its work in evaluating the replacement alternatives and reviewing the corresponding economic and traffic impacts, the DSA encourages members to attend the public meetings and to share your thoughts on the replacement alternatives that best support a healthy downtown and accessible waterfront. Comments are being accepted through Sept. 30 via the following:
