Re:
Recommendation to 10 year plan to end homelessness

The Human Services Committee passed the following recommendation at its January 18, 2005 committee Meeting:

“The Downtown Seattle Association supports the Committee to End Homelessness in King County’s (CEHKC) 10 year plan to end homelessness. By implementing practices that research has shown to be effective, the plan would support long-term and sustainable solutions to the issue, rather than continuing to simply manage episodes of homelessness as they occur.”

The plan includes creating a new leadership structure that facilitates discussion and collaboration among funders, government agencies, housing and service providers, homeless persons, advocates and community volunteers to help assure a unified and targeted approach to ending homelessness. The plan calls for focusing resources on increasing housing options, and making accessible the necessary services that engage and support individuals to maintain their health and housing stability.

The Committee would like support from the DSA Board of Trustees. Supporting the ten- year plan to end homelessness is a positive step towards actually reducing homelessness in Downtown Seattle, rather than just managing the problem.
