Viaduct

Summary of Current DSA Position

    Objectives
  • Retain access and capacity through, to and from Downtown.

  • Fix the safety risk of the Viaduct and Seawall.

  • Coordinate construction with Light Rail and Monorail.

  • Increase access to and use of the waterfront.

  • Address parking and ferry traffic needs appropriately.
    DSA Viaduct Position
  • Fixing the Viaduct is DSA's number one transportation priority.

  • DSA supports the six lane underground tunnel through the central waterfront with a four lane surface street and repair of the seawall. This alternative meets the criteria set out in the DSA Design Principles for Replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct developed by the Viaduct Task Force and approved by the DSA Board.
    Upcoming Issues
  • DSA will support the City of Seattle in lobbying to include the Alaskan Way Viaduct on the federal Mega Project list.
  • DSA will work with partners to develop a state-funding package for regional transportation improvements that will include significant funding for the Viaduct.
  • DSA will work with Downtown constituencies to develop a recommendation on construction timing and methods.
