Pioneer Square Fire Festival Reignites Spotlight on Downtown’s Most Historic Neighborhood

The 2014 Pioneer Square Fire Festival will bring large crowds over the weekend of August 16 & 17, providing local businesses with a chance to promote the Pioneer Square experience.

In addition to Seattle-area residents and visitors, many firefighters will travel from around the region to attend the event, along with their families and friends, meaning the Pioneer Square area will be host to thousands of people who may not usually visit the retailers, restaurants, hotels and other businesses in the area.

“The 2014 Fire Festival marks the 125th anniversary of the Great Fire,” said Alliance for Pioneer Square Executive Director Leslie Smith. “This two-day event is a great opportunity for people to come down and brush up on their Seattle history as well as see all of the great new offerings in the neighborhood.”

The Pioneer Square Fire Festival will welcome the return of the Scott Safety Firefighter Combat Challenge to Downtown Seattle. An X-Games of sorts for the firefighting community, this two-day event is expected to attract 3,000-5,000 people each day.

This event is family friendly! Not only can kids watch the Combat Challenge and look at the antique firetrucks, they can also participate in the event by taking the Kid’s Firefighter Challenge, which encourages physical fitness among children and puts their enthusiasm for firefighters to good use.

Fire festivalThe hallmark of the Pioneer Square Fire Festival – antique fire engines – will once again be on display and fun for all ages will commence on Occidental Square. This annual festival commemorates the re-birth of the Pioneer Square neighborhood following the Great Seattle Fire of June 6, 1889 that engulfed most of Seattle’s original commercial district.

Fire Festival partner Red Bull will be on location with MXT truck complete with a DJ and a Wings Team, providing Red Bull products.
